YOU SHOULD NEVER MURMUR

YOU SHOULD NEVER MURMUR

When God’s people murmur and complain, it’s a way to tell Him that he’s not caring enough. It means you’re blaming Him for whatever is wrong in your life. It is walking in unbelief.

1Corinthians 10:10 KJ2000
Neither murmur you, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Dear Believer,

Reading about Israel and their journey towards the Promised Land seems to show us that they were a race of murmurers.

When they lacked water, they complained. When they desired meat, they grumbled. When they felt any discomfort, they regretted leaving Egypt and following Moses. “We’d have remained slaves; that would have been better for us!” they would say.

Exodus16:2 KJ2000
And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

And then they would cry and curse Moses.

When ten of the spies brought evil news to the congregation, they eagerly received it. Then they started mourning their death and the death of their children while still alive.

And something remarkably stupid happened.

Numbers 14:1 KJ2000
And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

Think about this a while. Israel at this time was at least two million people strong. Imagine all of two million people raising their voices and weeping at the same time! They were practically embarrassing God. It became so comfortable to God that He told Moses to step aside so He could incinerate these people and start all over again.

Believers aren’t a murmuring race. We are a race of joyful people. Israel paid dearly for the sin of murmuring. Too many people died for it and never got to the Promised Land.

God’s attitude hasn’t changed towards murmuring. That is why we are told in the New Testament, “Don’t murmur!” And it is particularly significant that we are reminded about what happened to the murmurers of the Old Testament.

When God’s people murmur and complain, it’s a way to tell Him that he’s not caring enough. It means you’re blaming Him for whatever is wrong in your life. It is walking in unbelief.

God wants you to walk in the attitude of gratitude. When things appear tough, understand you are going on a journey. You will get through. Don’t ever look back and say, “I really wish I wasn’t brought here by God.”

If you are a parent, teach your children to live a murmur-free life. Murmuring and complaining kills faith. They make things worse and reverse gains made.

Be thankful to God for all He’s done and is doing for you. Faith always triumphs.

It is well with you.

Your friend,
Deon.
