WARNING IN THE WORD

WARNING IN THE WORD

Christian leaders seem to be more concerned with making people feel good about themselves than teaching them to actually do good.

Colosians 1:28 KJV
Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Dear Believer,

Modern Christianity seems to have gone soft. It seems that for the most part, when people go to church, it is to be pampered.

Christian leaders seem to be more concerned with making people feel good about themselves than teaching them to actually do good.

Preaching should not just be about our rights in Christ; our responsibilities must also be made clear. Not only should Believers be taught to prosper in material things, they must be taught to prosper in their soul and live a healthy spiritual life first.

Today we read from Paul the apostle who said he preached, ‘warning every man and teaching…’ so that he might present them perfect (or complete) in Christ.

‘Warning’ isn’t a word many people love to process. In the verse above, it is translated from a Greek word that means ‘admonish,’ ‘warn’ or ‘exhort.’ People feel generally comfortable with the other two words.

However, one of the biggest blessings a Believer can get from the Word of God is warning.

Talking about the Word of God, King David said:

Psalm 19:11 KJV
Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Some read the Bible to make themselves feel good about themselves. When they read about one of the Bible characters messing up in some way, they blame such a person, and if they are a preacher, preach a fine message about it.

They miss the warning that is being sent to them. They fail to realize that these men who failed have become an example to us of what we should not become and not some ‘content’ or ‘teaching material.’

1Corinthians10:11 KJV
Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

The word translated ‘admonition’ has the same root as the word translated ‘warning.’

Believer, if you haven’t, I encourage you to add the element of warning to what you receive from the Word of God, whether it is coming from the pulpit or you are receiving as you study by yourself.

You are blessed today!
