WAITING FOR THAT GOOD THING
It sometimes looks like things are getting worse after you have prayed. Faith knows, however, that this isn’t true. Things are actually getting better for the one who believes, even though it doesn’t appear so.
Luke 15:20 KJV
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
Dear Believer,
I’ll illustrate my point with the story of the Prodigal Son, but I’ll do so from the waiting father’s perspective.
The young man had left home in anger, taking his inheritance with him only to squander everything. He’d brought the family name into disrepute.
The Father wanted his son back. He would wait and look down the road. Days, weeks and months passed, but the Father did not give up believing that the son was coming home.
Everything looked like the son had gone forever, and there were reasons to believe that he had even died. Evil abounded in those far away places where the young man strayed into.
I can imagine how many good intentioned counsels he must have received from people to let it go and cut his losses. “After all, you still have another son in the house,” they must have told this father.
That is the way it is when you are believing God for the impossible.
Now consider that this prodigal son decided one day that he was coming home. That’s good news that the father was not aware of. From his perspective, the days were still rolling by.
The closer the young man was to home, the longer his absence from his daddy’s perspective. It didn’t look like anything changed from the father’s perspective; in fact, things were getting worse.
Now that we can see the whole picture, we know that things were actually getting better. The son was coming home! If we could, we’d tell the father, ‘Hang on old man, don’t despair. Your boy has left that life of shame,’ or ‘Keep waiting old man, get on with your work, he is on his way now.’
You see, the day the son finally appeared wasn’t the day the old man’s prayer was answered. His miracle was already settled the day the young man decided to return home, it just didn’t look like it.
It sometimes looks like things are getting worse after you have prayed. Faith knows, however, that this isn’t true. Things are actually getting better for the one who believes, even though it doesn’t appear so.
If the father had dwelt only on the perspective available to his senses, he would have given up. It is at this point that some men commit suicide or abandon faith in God. But he saw from the perspective of faith.
Believer, shift your gaze to the perspective of faith. It sometimes doesn’t appear like things are working in your favor, but God is working things out for you. He wants you to keep believing and not draw back because of what you can see from the human perspective.
Take this to heart:
Mark 11:24 KJV
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Have a great day.
Your friend,
Deon.
