USE THOSE EARS!

USE THOSE EARS!

Jesus had to tell the owner of the ears to use them to hear because his heart has become dull. A dull heart makes the ears deaf and the eyes blind.

Dear Believer,

I want to call your attention to a statement Jesus made as He went about doing good and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom.

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Matthew 13:9.

We all know ears are for hearing, so what significance is there in asking someone who has ears to use the ears to hear?

This injunction is a spiritual one. It shows that even though every believer has spiritual ears, not everyone is using theirs.

For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.” Acts 28:27.

There we have it. Jesus had to tell the owner of the ears to use them to hear because his heart has become dull. A dull heart makes the ears deaf and the eyes blind. A dull heart resists the Word. It is unable to process the revelation sent by the Holy Spirit.

In the book of Revelation, Jesus repeatedly told the churches: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying unto the churches.” That shows us the Holy Spirit always has something to say, the problem is that many aren’t hearing.

It’s for the same reason: “dullness of the heart.” When a man’s heart is bogged down by mundane concerns, sins and a load of worldly pleasures, he becomes spiritually overweight and loses spiritual nimbleness. He is not agile, he is deaf, he is blind, so his spiritual life loses power and he puts himself in danger.

Dear Believer, you have ears, use them. Set time apart to stay with the Word of God and feed on it. When it seems you aren’t getting illumination and the Word of God is dull, know that you are actually the dull one because the Word is always alive and active. Set time apart for spiritual exercises and lose excess weight so that you may avoid spiritual heart trouble.

It is well with you!

I am your friend,
Deon.
