THERE IS GREATNESS IN LITTLE THINGS

THERE IS GREATNESS IN LITTLE THINGS

A little act of kindness, a little gift, a little word of encouragement, a little show of love…all these can save a life, turn back the tide of evil and end strife.

1Corinthians 5:6 KJV
…Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Dear Believer,

God wants you to know the significance of little things.

Come to think of it: the littlest creatures sometimes cause the greatest damage. Viruses, bacteria, fungi are generally things you can’t see with the naked eye, and we all know how devastating their effects can be upon the body. In the history of mankind, whole populations have been wiped out because a single virus multiplied enough to infect everyone.

Jesus warned disciples to beware of “the leaven of the Pharisees.” (Luke 12:1). Let me quickly tell you what ‘leaven’ was.

There was no ‘canned yeast’ as we know it today. It existed in nature, though, as a fungus, and it usually found its way into lumps of dough made from flour prepared to be baked. Usually, a very small lump of dough from the previously fermented batch, called ‘leaven’ was added to the new large lump and left overnight. Before morning, the whole lump had been affected. That little leaven had ‘leavened’ the whole batch!

That’s what Jesus was talking about. Leaven is a metaphor for sin in the Bible. A little sin is enough to ruin a great life. All it needs is time to grow.

In our focus Bible passage today, we read of Paul telling the Corinthians who were condoning the open sin of one of them that the person would soon ‘infect’ everyone, if care wasn’t taken.

But thankfully, that principle is applicable to good little things too.The seed of the Word of God can be little, but when it is planted in a prepared heart, it can grow and become multiplied.

A little act of kindness, a little gift, a little word of encouragement, a little show of love…all these can save a life, turn back the tide of evil and end strife.

The lesson in all this is, never underestimate what a little thing can do, whether for good or bad. Do not ever allow a little bad thing to find a place in your heart or life, and do not refrain from doing good because it is little.

In Zechariah 4:10 God asks rhetorically, “Who dares belittle the days of little beginnings?”

I love to tell it to whoever would listen: THERE IS GREATNESS IN LITTLE THINGS.

Have a great day.

Your friend,
Deon.
