THE TWO KINDS OF PEACE
Treat your heart to healthy doses of the Word of boldness at all times.
John 14:27 KJV
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Dear Believer,
When people think of peace, it usually has to do with a calm environment and the absence of unrest. To those who believe in Jesus, peace has a deeper meaning.
Jesus says the peace He gives to the believer isn’t like the type that the world gives. He then says you shouldn’t let your heart be troubled.
So there are two kinds of peace: the kind the world gives and the kind that Christ gives.
The following can be gleaned from the focus passage above.
One, Jesus is the giver of real peace.
Two, the world gives a kind of fake peace, too.
Three, the peace Jesus gives resides within, in the ‘heart.’
Another thing to note is the power the Believer has to keep his heart peaceful. Jesus has given peace, but it is our responsibility to keep our heart from trouble. That is why he says, ‘DO NOT LET YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET IT BE AFRAID.’
This is very important. When a believer is afraid, it is because he lets the his heart accept the devil’s messages of fear.
David got this principle, and he applied it in his life. Hear him:
Psalm 27:3 MLV
Though an army should encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.
For the believer, having trouble all around isn’t a reason for fear in the heart. When the society seems to be in turmoil, a Believer holds on to the promises of God for protection and refuses to lose his confidence.
It is a thing of the heart, not a thing of the sight. The governments of the world may promise peace, and they may work at it by trying to create an atmosphere without unrest, but that doesn’t always work.
For the believer, the source of peace is within — in your heart — so “keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 KJ2000. Out of it are the issues of peace and boldness, too.
So treat your heart to healthy doses of the Word of boldness at all times. For instance, when you feed on passages such as Psalm 27 repeatedly and verbalize it, you will see your heart rise up in boldness in spite of whatever may be going on around you.
Always remember, Jesus the Prince of peace has given you the peace.
Have a great weekend.
Your friend,
Deon
