THE SPIRIT OF LIBERTY

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Dear Believer,

Let it be settled in your heart that there is no true liberty for anyone without the operation and the presence of the Spirit of God.

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” This simply tells us that where any other spirit is dominant or in ncontrol, there is bondage.

We can see clearly from the passage above that the Lord is that Spirit. That is to say, this Spirit isn’t some strange spirit from any other source.

Believer, our Lord doesn’t want us to speak, worship, or sing, or work, or live in an atmosphere that isn’t charged with the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Remember that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. (1Corinthians 6:19). When you are filled with the Spirit, the presence of the Spirit flows out and forms a special buffer zone around you. It doesn’t matter where you are, you operate in freedom. You are like the fully kitted astronaut in another world that is still breathing the air from his own world.

All kinds of bondage is in the world. The devil attacks people’s minds and bodies. His demons try to influence everything. Moving around without any defence puts a man in bondage to these malevolent forces.

But a Spirit-filled believer has nothing to fear. Note that I said ‘A SPIRIT-FILLED Believer.’ I’m sure you know that not all Believers are Spirit-filled. Some are hardly any different from a typical unbeliever.

The apostle Paul enjoins us to always be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18). He had to tell us this because it is possible to be filled with something else. Those other things cheat us of liberty, but the Spirit empowers us with liberty.

You might be wondering what the significance of this liberty is. The opposite of liberty (or freedom) is bondage or slavery that always works with fear. Once a Believer loses the fullness of the Spirit, he slides and loses that consciousness of liberty. What follows is the loss of spiritual authority.

Romans 8:15 KJV
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

So you are either operating in the Spirit of adoption (which is of liberty), or ‘the spirit of bondage.’

Once a man steps out of the spirit of liberty, he gets into the realm of bondage where the devil starts taking advantage of him.

Believer, you have been called out of debilitating bondage to a life of true liberty. Not only that, you are called to take that presence of the Spirit of Liberty everywhere you go. That is your constant defence against the spirit of bondage that is on rampage in the world.
