THE PRAYER EXPERIENCE

THE PRAYER EXPERIENCE

It is true that we tell God our needs in prayer. It is true that we confront evil forces in prayer and overcome them. But for the Believer, these are secondary reasons for prayer.

Mark 1:35 KJ2000
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a lonely place, and there prayed.

Dear Believer,

One question we should ask is, “Why did Jesus have to pray at all?”

Wasn’t He God in the flesh?

What need drove Him to rise up very early in the morning to pray?

Studying the earthly life of Jesus shows that He didn’t pray because of a need; He prayed as a seed.

Love, not need, drove Him to pray. His love for His Father necessitated times of seclusion when He would be able to talk to God uninterruptedly.

Jesus prayed as a means of fellowship with the Father.

When many Believers hear of prayer today, all that comes to their mind is need. “God give me this, Lord give me that. Protect me. Help me. I need this and that and I must have them by noon!”

While there will always be needs to meet, something that must be constant in a Believer’s life is the need to worship, communicate and fellowship with our God.

What happens in time if prayer?

1. It is a time of joy. Your heart is lifted into divine presence. Although we have the presence of God with us,. In prayer it manifests. We experience the joy of the Holy Spirit which is the strength of our spirit.

Psalm 16:11 KJ2000
You will show me the path of life: in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

2. it is a time of meditation. This is not yoga meditation or transcendental meditation. Prayer brings your heart to focus on the Word of God and on God Himself. It shuts out the world and all its distractions and deepens the reality of heavenly truths.

3. It builds your faith. When prayer is built on God’s Word, it grows your faith.

4. It makes you sensitive to the Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 5:28, the Word tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is a conscious act, not a passive one. When your spirit interacts with the Holy Spirit, you are connected with Him and understand His nature more and more. This gets you to know His will more readily. As a rule, the more we pray, the more of God’s will for our life we get to know.

It is true that we tell God our needs in prayer. It is true that we confront evil forces in prayer and overcome them. But for the Believer, these are secondary reasons for prayer.

This world is so full of distractions. Prayer time is the time to silence the world and tune in to heaven.

Jesus didn’t go around doing what He felt was okay. He did those things because the Holy Spirit revealed them to Him in prayer

John 5:19 KJ2000
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for whatsoever things he does, these also does the Son likewise.

A Believer must live by revelation. Prayer affords us the means to connect to divine Revelations.

This must be maximized.

The Lord help you to deepen your prayer experience with Him in the name of Jesus.

Have a great day.

Your friend,
Deon.
