THE KISS OF BETRAYAL

THE KISS OF BETRAYAL

Do not ever be the reason your brother or leader or friend gets into trouble.

Luke 22:47-48 KJV
And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

Dear Believer,

One of the most crushing feelings is the feeling of betrayal. What needs to be said, however, is that there is no betrayal without trust.

Only those we trust have the capacity to betray us, and only those who trust us can be betrayed by us.

Jesus loved Judas. That man was trusted with the treasury. Apart from stealing from the common purse, he also became so greedy that he sold his Master to His enemies.

‘Kiss’ and ‘betrayal’ should never be mentioned in the same sentence, but we can see how Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss.

“So Judas, you can betray me with a kiss?” Jesus said as the betrayer came with a familiar smile and a deadly kiss to identify Him to those who wanted to arrest Him.

For three and a half years he was among the closest men to Jesus. He ate with him, preached with him and held his hands. Yet his heart became so hardened that he could sell Jesus for a few silver coins.

Two lessons immediately come out of this saga. The first is for you as an individual. Do not ever take your relationship with God and your brethren for granted. Be a loyal Believer. Refuse to speak negative things about people behind them. Refuse to betray people.

It is one of the signs if the end time:

Mat 24:10 KJV
And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

Do not ever be the reason your brother or leader or friend gets into trouble.

The second lesson is that you must be watchful. There are so many Judases walking around and trying to pass for faithful brethren and friends. Always run the profile of people through the God’s Spirit to be sure that they are who they say they are, especially when they start getting close to you.

It is getting to a time when Believers must be watchful of their associations. You don’t have to be suspicious of people, but you must be discerning.

Paul talks about ‘false brethren’ in 2Corinthians 11:26. Peter spoke about ‘false teachers’ and ‘false prophets’ in 1Peter 2:1. And you can be sure that there are false versions of every good gift of people. We must all walk in discernment and be prayerful so that we won’t find ourselves in unnecessary entanglement occasioned by trusting a false person.

I pray that the Lord grant you a spirit that sees beyond the natural level in the name of Jesus.

Have a great day.

Your friend,
Deon.
