THE CRUSHED MIND AND ITS LIFE

THE CRUSHED MIND AND ITS LIFE
Everyone has a breaking point. Those repeated experiences of failure, hurtful words hurled at a person to demean and put them down, excruciating lack and poverty, abuses of all kinds, chronic illness, betrayals and so on eventually take their toll on most people, and their mind starts to fall apart.

Dear Believer,

Let’s talk about the mind today.

The mind of a man is a remarkable thing. It is so complex and deep that even the owner of the mind can’t adequately know it.

Things can stay buried in the mind for decades only to come up when you least expect them to. And many times, a person sustains a wound in the mind as a child and forgets it. It is called selective amnesia. The mind has the ability to hide a very unpleasant experience or trauma, putting it totally out of reach, but that pain can come up later to mess up the life of the person or their spouse or children.

A good brother of mine, Dr. Seun Nubi is a consultant psychiatrist. We sometimes have long discussions together on the mind. Having helped so many people in need of help in that area, he always has a lot to say about it.

“Simply put,” he says, “the quality of a person’s life is a reflection of the quality of his mind.”

That is a profound statement. People tend to concentrate on their physical bodies, but haven’t we all seen a person who seems to be so healthy and beautiful physically but has a messed up mind?

The mind can be broken and damaged just as the body. A lot of people have very difficult lives now and are unable to achieve anything not because they are not trying or are unwilling to progress, but because there are blockages in their mind that are as real as the walls of Jericho.

Many will never be able to successfully maintain good relationships, get married, hold a job or raise children because the part of their mind that should handle those responsibilities has been crushed. It is not a matter of being unwilling as it is of being unable.

Many will never be able to successfully maintain good relationships, get married, hold a job or raise children because the part of their mind that should handle those responsibilities has been crushed. It is not a matter of being unwilling as it is of being unable.

When Jesus came to Earth, He announced,

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. Luke 4:18.

Let me call your attention to just three points here, among others.

1. He came to preach to the poor.

This is because poverty is very damaging and results in the crushing of the mind. It affects self esteem negatively.

2. He came to heal the brokenhearted.

The brokenhearted are those with illnesses of the mind. They are the disappointed, the traumatized, the hopeless, people controlled by various phobias and the suicidal ones.

3. He came to set free those that are bruised.

That sounds out of place. When someone has bruises we don’t think of setting them free. But here Jesus is making us to understand that the bruising of the mind leads to mental and even spiritual imprisonment. The one whose mind is bruised is in anguish and is continually keeping that part of their life away from people to avoid further hurt. That limits them to a little corner, effectively confining them to a little prison without walls.

A man’s [healthy] spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, [or a broken heart] who can bear? Proverbs 18:14.

Everyone has a breaking point. Those repeated experiences of failure, hurtful words hurled at a person to demean and put them down, excruciating lack and poverty, abuses of all kinds, chronic illness, betrayals and so on eventually take their toll on most people, and their mind starts to fall apart. That is why some people who seem to be okay just get up one day and take their own life. They have become so crushed that death looks so appealing to them and becomes the only ‘reasonable’ way of escape.

Good news is, you can reach your breaking point and not break. God’s Spirit can help you that much.
Many are trying to get married, or make decisions that are equally as important,  when they ought to get their mind healed first. Many sick marriages are merely the result of sick minds.

Believers are not exempt from the pressures of life even though they have access to the help that the Holy Spirit gives. Due to spiritual immaturity or other reason, even a believer may find himself at a place where his mind gets broken and seriously needs to be ministered to. It is good to know that your God is always up to the task.

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3.

Do not hide your pains. Just like the wounds in the flesh, an untreated wound in the soul festers and becomes spiritually contaminated. Such wounds take away a person’s life before they eventually die physically.

There are times a Believer needs help from their brethren or capable ministers. There are times those pains need to be brought out to be dealt with. The griefs, the anguish, the hopelessness — all can be healed and the crushed spirit can be made whole again.

Prayer, to a Christian, is more that a religious exercise. A deep, heartfelt communication with God is therapeutic. The ‘oil of gladness’ flows from the presence of God. The Words He speaks reaches to the deepest places and effect healing. You can bare you mind to Him without being ashamed.

If you are reading this and need help, reach to God. If you’d love to be ministered to, contact me. I offer you the friendship of the Holy Spirit. You can be healed!

Let us pray together:

Our Father, we come to you today to draw from the limitless grace for divine healing and health that You have made available to us through your Son Jesus Christ. We receive healing today for all the wounds of the mind which we have carried knowingly or unknowingly. By faith we receive the touch of the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the oil of gladness in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Have a great day.

Your friend,

Deon.
