SOUND DOCTRINE WILL HURT YOUR PRIDE!

SOUND DOCTRINE WILL HURT YOUR PRIDE!

But sound doctrine will not soothe the flesh. It will sometimes make the flesh uncomfortable. Sound doctrine will not excuse your sins, but expose them. That is why sound doctrine may sometimes have to be ‘endured.’

Dear Believer,

The teeming masses of church goers and their ministers are instituting a travesty. We have finally decided that we are the ones to decide what God must tell us. If He doesn’t agree with us, then we can always find a better place to hear what we want to hear.

Today, we select portions of the Bible that promise us victory over the enemy, but avoid those that teach victory over sin. We love our sins dearly, and love the Lord as long as He doesn’t rock our boat of pleasure. We read the Bible to claim our rights in Christ, while we ignore the passages that tell us our responsibilities.

We are living in the time prophesied by Paul the Apostle:

For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, And will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions. (2Timothy 4:3-4 Amplified).

Sound teaching of the Word of God may not always be enjoyed, it sometimes has to be endured. This is something we have to let people know, because it has become the norm now to expect to ‘enjoy’ whatever comes from the pulpit.

Teachers who teach sound doctrines are an endangered species. More and more teachers are pandering to the whims of the itchy hearers who go about ‘seeking’ a church ‘sensitive’ to their lusts.

Paul tells us the time would come when people would hunt, or rather shop around for what would titillate their ears. They would have itching ears that need to be constantly scratched with soothing words. The ‘preaching’ they love to hear would be determined by their lust, so they would ‘heap to themselves teachers’ (according to the King James Version) that would tell them what would gratify their flesh.

But sound doctrine will not soothe the flesh. It will sometimes make the flesh uncomfortable. Sound doctrine will not excuse your sins, but expose them. That is why sound doctrine may sometimes have to be ‘endured.’

About twenty-five years ago, my fiancée, (who is now my wife) attended a mid-week service in one church where the pastor told us that doctrine belonged to the latrine! I was appalled, but he was so proud of his ‘poetic line.’ Compare what this preacher said to what the bible says in 1 Timothy 4:16.

Today we sing, “I know who I am,” but we don’t know who the Lord is. Yet, it is not just those that know who they are, but those who “Know their God” shall do exploits. (Daniel 11:32 KJV).

The Lord is a loving God, but He is also a consuming fire. Paul said, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men…” (2Corinthians 5:11 KJV). So there is a terror side to the Lord!

Let us not just praise Him and dance in worship. Let us give Him the Honour He deserves. He tells us, “A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name … (Malachi 1:6 KJV).

Today, we are raising spiritual babies who don’t want to be corrected. Grace, to them, has become a license to sin.

Always remember, Believer, that the very many warnings given by the apostles against sin and its consequences were not only given to unbelievers. The overwhelming majority of these warnings were given to believers in Christ who were part of the church.

These apostles understood grace, but they also knew it should not be abused. They warned believers because there would be consequences for living an ungodly life.

Dear Believer, let no one deceive you.

Do have a beautiful day!

Your friend,
Deon
