SERVE GOD CORRECTLY
For your service to be acceptable to God, it must be offered with reverence and awe.
Hebrews 12:28 VW
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
Dear Believer,
We are taking up residence in a Kingdom that will never be conquered. There, all things that trouble and defile will have no place. All divinely implanted human potential will be maximized.
I look forward to seeing all I have only known by faith. I’m already a citizen of the Kingdom, but in this body of flesh, I am on earth to fulfil a divine purpose. That is true of all Believers, too.
Before the culmination of everything, I have to serve God ‘acceptably with reverence and godly fear.’ This is important.
God wants to be served, but He doesn’t want to be served anyhow. As you serve Him, He wants your absolute loyalty.
For your service to be acceptable to God, it must be offered with reverence and awe. That is something that needs to be drummed into the ears of this generation of ‘woke’ Christians.
Many don’t have respect for God at all. They serve God irreverently and without godly fear. To them, God is just ‘the man upstairs.’ (That’s an actual phrase used by some groups of Christians to describe God!).
God told the Israelites:
Malachi 1:6 VW
A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear? says Jehovah of Hosts to you, O priests who despise My name. But you say, In what way have we despised Your name?
There’s hardly anything sacred that some modern Believers don’t desecrate. Talk about grace, and they take it to be a license for sin. (They don’t actually say it like that, but you see it clearly in their lifestyle). Talk about holiness and they say it doesn’t matter what you do or how you live; you are forever cleansed of the sin you have ever committed and the ones you will ever commit, so you can as well do whatever suits your sinful fancy.
But in God’s book, ultimate access to the Kingdom is not given to the irreverent. Those who serve God in their own way – dishonorably, disrespectfully, sinfully — are not admitted; they are ‘spewed out.’ (Revelation 3:16).
The apostle tells us why this is important:
Hebrews 12:29 VW
For our God is a consuming fire.
The implication is clear. Modern preachers can downplay it all they want, God has standards. He didn’t save anyone so that they can serve Him anyhow.
It is an eternal privilege to serve Him, and that is why we must do it the way He wants it.
Rid your life of any attitude that smacks of irreverence to God. If you don’t take God seriously, don’t expect the devil to take you seriously. Believers who don’t care to honor God by obeying His Word; who carelessly miss or come late to Believer’s gathering without regrets; who join unbelievers to laugh at jokes denigrating the church and the word of God; who speak disrespectfully about the body of Christ and still claim to be worshiping God are just deceiving themselves. They are wasting their efforts.
Remember, you are a Child of the Kingdom, and we honor our King in this Kingdom. We serve Him in reverence and not in disrespect. Now, go and serve!
Have a glorious day of worship.
Your friend,
Deon.
