REGAIN THE LOST LOVE

REGAIN THE LOST LOVE

What is the first love? It is your first passion for the Lord. You remember when you first met the Lord, or when you first received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You promised the Lord to serve Him with all your life, with all your heart.

Dear Believer,

Something is happening, and it is not good. You shouldn’t be part of it.

I will illustrate with the following passage. Note that the words were spoke by Jesus Himself.

Revelation 2:4.
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

The Ephesian church was excellent in many respects, but they were reproved for having lost their first love.

What is the first love? It is your first passion for the Lord. You remember when you first met the Lord, or when you first received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You promised the Lord to serve Him with all your life, with all your heart.

After that, the zeal of many fizzled out. They stopped telling people about the Lord. Their zeal for evangelism has disappeared. They have started finding fault with everything connected the Church and their faith. You have lost your first love!

You have probably noticed how many Believers are falling away at this time. The pandemic caused a near-total lockdown. That means people couldn’t physically attend fellowship in churches and other physical location. This affected so many people and they gradually drifted away from the love that they had for God and the brethren. The lockdown led to the breakdown of many profession Believers.

This shouldn’t have been. As we move on in these uncertain times, our faith, commitment and love will be tested again and again. Should we just roll over and let the devil have his way? No!

Hebrews 10:39
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Verse 5 of our passage today says ‘Repent, and do the first works…’ So the first love is manifested in the first works. Those things you used to do for God. True love is up and doing, and if you love God, you will work for Him. You will not let your fellowship with God break.

Why do people lose their first love? For the church of the Ephesians, it was too much emphasis on defending themselves. They were too busy ‘trying those who say they are apostles, but are not.’ They gradually left the Truth to concentrate on criticizing the false.

For some today, it may be money, or persecution, or any personal challenges. But we need to remember our first love for Jesus and get revived again. The answer to the situation is to ‘Repent.’ Pray to the Lord to help you to be strong again. Start again where you left off, and the Lord will bless you for coming back.

Talk to your Father:
Lord, I thank You for saving me through Jesus Christ. I know I was not saved so that I could leave my first love and draw back into perdition. I receive help to live strong and open my heart for the love that is being shed by Jesus into my heart always, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Your friend,
Deon.
