ONE MIND WITH THE BRETHREN
Believer, if you have an issue with someone, don’t think it is primarily an issue of prayer and fasting. Most times, it is just a matter of letting the love of Christ flow through you.
Philipians 4:2 KJV
I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
Dear Believer,
The focus scripture today reveals a crack among many believers that we must always fix. And it would be better for us all if we didn’t have such an issue to deal with.
The names Euodias and Syntyche are female names. These women were obviously not on the same page on many issues that had to do with the church, church leadership and probably doctrines. And if human nature is anything to judge by, we can say they were probably envying each other in certain matters.
At any rate, it is clear that they weren’t ‘of the same mind’ in Lord. If one chose the right direction, the other would surely choose the left.
Now, note that Paul didn’t command them to start working together. He didn’t tell people to pray for them. All he did was ‘beseech’ them. He begged them to be of the same mind’.
The reason for this simple involvement of Paul was that you couldn’t force people to love each other. Affection is a decision.
The almost casual way in which Paul handled the matter shows that he believed that whatever was the matter between these two godly women was pretty. It wasn’t something serious and huge as they would want others to believe.
Paul knew they could simply decide to be friends if they wished. In just one verse, he begged them to be of the same mind’ in Christ.
Many of the problems that Believers have among themselves are not as big as they think they are. As a pastor for many years since the days of my youth, I’ve had to settle many disputes and reconcile brethren. One thing I have seen is that too many of the reasons behind these misunderstandings are laughable. A little tolerance here, a little forbearance there, a little tenderness now and then could have solved the problem before it snowballed into a big thing.
This can be applied to probably every kind of relationship.
Believer, if you have an issue with someone, don’t think it is primarily an issue of prayer and fasting. Most times, it is just a matter of letting the love of Christ flow through you.
So, I beseech you, brethren, be of the same mind in the Lord lest Satan take advantage of our differences to create division among you.
Have a blessed day!
