NOT EVERY TIME IS YOUR TIME

NOT EVERY TIME IS YOUR TIME

Don’t be impatient and restless because everyone seems to be moving and you are not. Not everyone moving fast has a destination…

John 7:6
Then Jesus said unto them, “My time has not yet come: but your time is always ready.”

Dear Believer,

One of the characteristics of carnal people is to guide and lead themselves. They rush right ahead into anything without bothering to contemplate whether it is God’s will or not.

Believers don’t lead themselves. Since Old Testament times, the concept of waiting on the Lord has been very important to the Patriarchs and the prophets.

In the passage above, Jesus spoke to His own brothers, children of his own mother who were taunting Him to go up to Jesusalem and show Himself to people.

They were telling Him in essence, “If you think you are so important, what are you doing in this village? Go to the city and show your so-called power in the large gatherings of the Passover Celebrations, if you dare!” (Cf John 7:3-4).

But Jesus never allowed Himself to be urged into action by the voice of any man. He told His mocking brothers, “You guys and I have different lives to lead. As for you, any time is action time. You can go up there and start doing anything you like, since you don’t have any special assignment. It’s not time for me to go, but it’s always time for you to go anywhere. I can only go when it is my time to do so.” (John 7:6, 8).

That was a strange concept to His ignorant brothers. But Jesus was a man who moved only when the Spirit of God led Him.

Here’s the difference between Him and His brothers, and this is very important to note:

They went to the Passover Celebrations like everyone else. Jesus, on the other hand took His time and later went when He was moved by God to do so. At the Passover, no one heard anything about the brethren of Jesus. But there, everyone heard about Jesus, the carpenter from Nazareth.

His words shook the place. He taught people with power and introduced them to the Holy Spirit. Even though His brothers were there, no one heard anything about them. All their rush was a move into absolute insignificance.

Believer, that is the difference between the one who leads himself and the one led by God. One moves in his own wisdom into insignificance and obscurity; the other moves in God’s power into relevance and fulfillment.

Don’t be impatient and restless because everyone seems to be moving and you are not. Not everyone moving fast has a destination; some are just following the crowd and jumping on the bandwagon without understanding anything about the flow of things.

That is not who you are. When God is preparing you, let Him do His job. You will only go very far when you have enough ‘fuel’ in you.

Romans 8:14 KJV
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Now pray to your Father:
Father Lord, you are the One who leads by the Holy Spirit. I ask today that You help me to know by the Holy Spirit when I must move and when I must wait. Let me never rush headlong into things and places that aren’t Your will for my life. Let me always know my time, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Have a great day.

Your friend,
Deon.
