MY FATHER! MY DADDY!!

MY FATHER! MY DADDY!!

The Moslem world today came through the lineage of Ishmael, and till today, Moslems call themselves slaves, not sons of God.

Dear Believer,

Let us examine one of the Bible verses that highlight our spiritual status.

Romans 8:15.
You haven’t received the spirit of slaves that leads you into fear again. Instead, you have received the spirit of God’s adopted children by which we call out, “Abba! Father!” (God’s Word Version)

Do you know that there is a difference between ‘father’ and ‘dad’?  ‘Father’ is rather formal but ‘dad’ shows a depth of relationship that goes beyond mere formality. The Aramaic word “Abba” is the equivalent of the word “dad.” In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus called God “Abba, Father.” It was the same as saying “O my dad.” Jesus was talking to His dad!

In the days when the above Bible passage were written, only sons who were freeborn were allowed to call their father ‘Abba.’  A slave, or a son born of a slave woman was not allowed to call his father ‘Abba.’ He was his father but not his dad.

Hagar, Abraham’s wife’s slave girl gave birth to Ishmael. Such a son in the culture of the times of Paul could not call his dad Abba because he had a slave mother. The Moslem world today came through the lineage of Ishmael, and till today, Moslems call themselves slaves, not sons of God.

But the Bible says we have received the Spirit of adoption which gave us the full right of sonship. We have not received the spirit of bondage but of freedom. “Whereby we cry ‘Abba father’.”  Just what Jesus called God! (Mark 14:36 KJV). Believer, you are as much a son as Christ is a Son. You are a joint heir with Him and have access to whatever He has access to.

“Abba father.”  “O my dad.”  What a wonderful statement. Thank you Jesus I can go to God without fear. I can enter His room without knocking. I have unlimited access to Him because He is Abba to me!

Talk to your Father:

Thank You my heavenly Daddy for making me Your son. I am happy that I can come to you anytime.

Your friend,
Deon.
