MORE KNOWLEDGE, MORE GRACE
God doesn’t want the Believer to be stagnant in grace. In fact, he doesn’t want us to be stagnant in any gift He has given us. He wants us to grow in everything.
2Peter 1:2 KJV
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.
Dear Believer,
One of the things Believers often pray for, (which they oughtn’t be praying for) is grace. Just as praying for faith is basically an exercise in futility, praying for grace changes nothing.
If you are a Believer, you are saved by grace. This means your salvation did not come because of your efforts or your struggle. It was a gift from God to you. (Ephesians 2:5, 8).
You already have grace. However, grace must increase in your life. There are certain steps a Believer must take to increase grace. For instance, the Word of God says you cannot remain in sin and expect grace to increase. So living above sin causes grace to grow. (1 Romans 6:1).
Today’s scripture focus teaches that grace and peace will be multiplied unto the Believer ‘through the knowledge of Jesus our Lord.’ Other versions say ‘in the knowledge of our Lord.’
You can see how important the knowledge of Jesus is? When you increase in the knowledge of Jesus, grace increases. It doesn’t increase by praying for it.
God doesn’t want the Believer to be stagnant in grace. In fact, he doesn’t want us to be stagnant in any gift He has given us. He wants us to grow in everything.
To emphasize the connection between the knowledge of Jesus and growth in grace, God gave us the following admonition.
2Peter 3:18 KJV
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ…”
Greater knowledge of Jesus is the key that unlocks greater grace. Jesus must be known by the Believer in deeper dimensions every day. As we fellowship with Him in His Word, in prayer, in ministry, He reveals himself more and more.
You may wonder what more is there to know about Jesus. Paul the Apostle abandoned his claims to worldly glory for one thing:
Phillipians 3:10 KJV
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings…
Knowing Him goes beyond having a casual knowledge of Him. Remember that Paul had an encounter with Jesus on the way to Damascus. He had preached the Gospel in many places, yet he wanted to ‘know’ Jesus in deeper dimensions.
It is very unfortunate that many Believers aren’t making Jesus the focus of their spirituality.
So instead of praying for grace, go for knowledge. That is why Paul prayed for God to give Believers the spirit of knowledge and revelation ‘in the knowledge of Him’ (Ephesians 1:17). You cannot access these provisions without the knowledge of Christ.
Note that we aren’t talking about knowledge in a general way. Knowledge, the kind that people love to go after, will puff them up and drive them further from grace. (1 Corinthians 8:1). The knowledge of Jesus, on the other hand, brings greater grace.
It is time we got to know Him more and more.
Let’s talk to the Father:
Thank You Heavenly Father for giving me Jesus. Today, I open my life and understanding by faith to know Jesus more and more and to increase in grace more and more in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Have a great day.
