KINGDOM RESPONSIBILITY
For the kingdom to work, it’s citizens must be working citizens. We must find out the King’s will and do it.
Luke 12:47 KJV
And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Dear Believer,
One thing that makes the Kingdom of God function is a very strong sense of responsibility. God didn’t save you into a lifestyle of indolence and irresponsibility. He has called you to work.
Let me make it clear that no man can save himself by working his way into the Kingdom. An unsaved man’s work is worthless as far as salvation is concerned. We are saved by grace, and not by any work. Jesus paid all our debts.
However, after we’ve come into the Kingdom, God wants us to submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit so He can work through us. This is an active partnership with God.
In the focus scripture of today, Jesus reveals just how seriously God takes our attitude to our responsibilities in the Kingdom. In Luke 12:42-48 He mentions three kinds of servants.
The first one is called “The good and faithful servant.” He does what is expected of him at the right time. Jesus says he shall be blessed when his master comes. His master shall make him ruler over all that He has.
The second one is the servant who knows the will of his master and doesn’t do it. That is the negligent, indolent and unprofitable servant. He is even making life difficult for other servants, beating them and denying them of their dues. Jesus says he shall be beaten with many stripes. He failed in his duties.
The third one doesn’t know the will of his master and so does not do it. You’d think he would be exonerated for not knowing his master’s will. But Jesus says he shall be beaten too, but with a few stripes. The implication is that the servant is expected to find out his master’s will and do it. This one doesn’t, so he goes ahead to ‘commit things worthy of stripes.’ (vs. 48). He is willingly ignorant so he can escape responsibility.
We are called to work. This generation of believers seems to be more interested in their rights than their responsibilities. Both are important. And it is a tragedy to sacrifice our responsibilities for our rights.
In Revelation, Jesus tells the churches seven times, “I know thy works!” Yes, He cared about what they were doing. Their efforts were noticed and recorded.
For the kingdom to work, it’s citizens must be working citizens. We must find out the King’s will and do it.
So, friend, find out your place and start to function effectively. That is what you will be rewarded for at the end of everything, and let me tell you this, ranks don’t change in eternity. What you do now in the Kingdom will determine your eternal rank and placement.
Jesus said:
John 9:4 KJV
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Rise up and work.
I pray for you today that all weaknesses be taken away from you, and the will of the Lord be clearly revealed to you.
Amen.
Have a blessed day.
Your friend,
Deon.
