IS IT GOOD TO GOD?

For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things.

Dear Believer,

Decision making for you shouldn’t be all about you as an individual. You are intelligent, smart and resourceful, and that’s commendable. However, some things don’t answer to all that.

In Acts chapter 25, the leading apostles had to decide on some important doctrinal issues. There were Jewish Believers who wanted everyone circumcised and doing things that were done in the Old Testament. There were apostles, like Paul, who were sent to the Gentiles and who believed all those things weren’t necessary for salvation or a vibrant relationship with God.

After praying and and considering the matter, the leading apostles responded by making their pronouncement.

Now here’s the remarkable thing. They didn’t just state what they thought was good to them. They spoke about what was the best thing to them AND the Holy Spirit.

What you think about a matter may be important, but will never be as important as what the Holy Spirit thinks.

King David once set his heart on building a temple for God. That was a good thing, no doubt. He told the prophet about it and the prophet encouraged him to do what was in his heart.

Well, as prophet Nathan got home, God told him to go back to the King and tell him he wasn’t the one to build the temple. As good as his intentions were, God didn’t want that to come from him. It seemed good to king David, but not to the Holy Spirit. (Be sure to read 1 Chronicles 17:1-6).

Sometimes all you need to do is ask God. Sometimes you may need to spend time with Him. You may need to search the word of God for divine opinion. Whatever you do, make sure you understand how God feels about a decision before you take it. Don’t just do things because they seem good to you.
