GRACE IS FOR HUMILITY, DISGRACE IS FOR PRIDE

GRACE IS FOR HUMILITY, DISGRACE IS FOR PRIDE

You see, a humble man is a man at peace with himself. The proud man by definition can’t live a life of peace because he spends a large amount of emotional energy to prop up the fake image of himself that he has created.

Psalm 138:6 NHEB
For though the LORD is high, yet he looks after the lowly; but the proud, he knows from afar.

Dear Believer,

The greatest reason pride is dangerous is not that it sets a man against God, but that it sets God against him.

It is clear that God detests pride. We read in the passage above that as great as God is, he still respects the humble person. As far as the proud is concerned, God keeps him permanently as a distance.

You can’t be proud and enjoy intimacy with God; he just won’t be available for you.

James 4:6 KJV
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

More grace is given to the humble one. What does the proud then receive?

Disgrace!

It says God resists the proud. This means God stands against him. He may think his progress is being hindered by some satanic forces, but he is actually his own enemy.

Believer, when you understand that pride is deadly, you’d do all to walk in humility before God and man.

Today it has become fashionable to be crass and rude. Many young people now think that they have to look and talk down on people before they are respected. And that is exactly why many will remain little.

Let us understand what humility is. This is important because humility is being redefined today. People think it means grovelling before othees and belittling yourself.

No. It means honoring others and even preferring them above yourself when there is need.

Phillipians 2:3 NET
Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.

It means not throwing around your weight, making as though you are more than you really are.

Romans 12:3 NET
...I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment…

It means to honor others the way you want to be honored. (Matthew 7:12). It means to learn to let things go even when you know you can cause some trouble and use your influence to shake things up.

You see, a humble man is a man at peace with himself. The proud man by definition can’t live a life of peace because he spends a large amount of emotional energy to prop up the fake image of himself that he has created.

God wants to relate with real people. Proud people are fake, so He distances Himself from them.

Let this sink into you, Believer, that God gives more grace to the humble and resists the proud.

The Spirit of God in you teaches humility. Yield to Him. When you refuse to walk in pride, don’t think it is because of anyone. You are doing it for YOU. You grow in grace, and that matters a lot because grace flavors your life with God’s goodness.

Have a great day.

Your friend,
Deon.
