DON’T WEEP FOR TODAY

DON’T WEEP FOR TODAY

What would you say about man who has venomous snakes under his bed but only bothered about two houseflies perching on his windowsill?

Luke 23:27-29 NHEB
A large crowd of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him. But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For look, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’

Dear Believer,

The parable is told of the man who carelessly set the roof of his own house on fire. As the roof was gradually being engulfed in the conflagration, this man got very busy.

What was he busy doing? He was busy pouring water on the little drops of burning wood that were occasionally falling from the roof. He was also busy shutting the door so that thieves wouldn’t come in.

As ridiculous as this may sound, it is a common thing in life. People sometimes.become consumed in irrelevant, profitless ventures that appear important while neglecting the main thing.

What would you say about aan who has venomous snakes under his bed but only bothered about two houseflies perching on his windowsill?

Jesus was carrying His cross to Calvary. The women of Jerusalem we’re following Him, weeping because of Him. Jesus told them in essence that their time of serious weeping was yet to come. Terrible things would still happen. They shouldn’t waste their tears.

Jesus told them that things would become so bad that they would be begging the mountains to fall on them so that they could end their misery.

This prophecy became fulfilled decades later when Titus the Roman General laid waste the whole of Jerusalem. The siege that preceded the Carnage was so bad that people were eating their own children.

Like the daughters of Jerusalem, many are only praying and weeping about what they can see at this present time. Just as Jesus saw the future, we must also be aware of the direction the world is going.

Today, many Believers are fixated on the present difficulties. Yes, the world is in a bad place, but it is just a little of the things that must happen. Those who are shouting and complaining about the pressures of today need to stop and pray for the future of their children. Leave the tiny sparks and get out of the big fire consuming the roof.

The world is going down, down. If you believe the Bible, you’d understand that the world is a lost cause. Gird your loins and prepare yourself and those on whom you have influence.

Luke 21:36 NHEB
Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be able to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Don’t be too fascinated with the politics of this world that you lose sight of the heavenly government.

Always remember: the past is fulfilled; the presence is being fulfilled, but the future is what counts. If you get too attached to what you see today, you can lose sight of what God is showing you about tomorrow. That may get you into trouble later like the daughters of Jerusalem.

Pray, not just about today; pray into your future.

Have a beautiful day.

Your friend,
Deon
