DON’T LET THE OLD THINGS COME BACK!
If you do not renew your mind continuously, you will lose your mind. The world and the devil will take it over and fill it with trash.
Dear Believer,
In the realm of men, everything gets old. Information becomes obsolete and pieces of valuable equipment lose their value when more advanced ones are made.
Do not let it surprise you that this is true of our spiritual life, too. Every blessing, if not held firmly, wears off eventually. The touch of the Holy Spirit for yesterday won’t always seem fresh. The Word given to you weeks ago may seem like a distant echo of itself today. That is why we are enjoined in the Word of God to “keep getting transformed by the renewing of our mind.” (Romans 12:1-2).We must not let those blessings slip. (Hebrews 2:1).
If any man is in Christ, he is a NEW creature.
That is great to know. We also read further:
Old things have passed away, and all things become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
You can see that there is no way to mention the new without referencing the old. In fact, no one would recognize or value new things unless they knew what the old looked like.
I said this to emphasize the fact that the ‘old’ shall always be a factor. It will keep trying to come back. Old things can creep in and mess up the new, if we let them.
When someone says something like, “I used to get so violently angry that I would scare away my children and wife, but now I have become a kind man,” such a person should understand that anger will come back if he allows it. This applies to every human vice.
Paul tells the Galatians who were already set free from spiritual bondage:
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled AGAIN with a yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1.
Peter the Apostle told the Believers in his day who had escaped the pollution, or the defilement of the world:
For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 2 Peter 2:20.
Believer, can you see that it is dangerous to rest on your oars and start patting yourself on the back for a job well done?
If you do not renew your mind continuously, you will lose your mind. The world and the devil will take it over and fill it with trash. Demas abandoned his ministry because he ‘loved this present world.’ (2 Timothy 4:10). Such things don’t happen overnight. It starts when a believer leaves his mind unrenewed. He loses it eventually to the devil and his system.
What drives the mind towards a particular direction and shapes it’s nature is the information that flows into it and on which it dwells. That is why it is necessary for the Believer to feed his mind on the Word of God and to act on it.
I want to deeply admonish you today, Believer, to secure your mind with the Word of God first before letting it interact with the outside world. The only way to keep the old things that passed away at bay is to fortify your mind against them.
Never let a day pass without feeding your mind on the Word of God to satisfaction.
The Lord keep you strong in Him.
Have a great day!
Your friend,
Deon.
