DEEPER THAN SEX (2)
People should seek help for their inner struggles while it is still safe to do so.
Proverbs 6:27-29 KJV
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
Dear Believer,
Years ago, a young man who read my book, Sex and the Man of God, came.to me and made a confession. He had been summoned to a family meeting by his mother on account of his sister who misbehaved. The young lady had come home from her place of learning with a pregnancy instead of a certificate. The mother wanted him to talk to his sister.
During the night, as they were talking, said this guy, ‘something’ came over him and he had sex with his pregnant sister — daughter born of his own father and mother.
Since that time, his life took a nosedive. Nothing he did worked. Poverty covered him like a cloak.
Another young man told me about the he lived for a time with his uncle who took good care of him. One day, one thing led to another and he had sex with his uncle’s wife.
I can share even more troubling stories like these. I shared these two because they received needed help.
Three things common with all of these people were poverty, disease and some form of oppression. A curse was usually noticeably at work in their lives that could be traced to the acts of indiscretion.
Proverbs 6:29 KJV
So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
I thank God that those who were truly willing to submit to God’s guidance were set free. However, what bothered me was the reason behind these acts of perversion.
I noticed that the rapists or the pedophiles didn’t suddenly start pouncing on vulnerable people and children. The incestuous didn’t suddenly start having sex with their family members. Adulterers didn’t just start suddenly.
They had been struggling with the urge for many years before being finally overwhelmed and giving in. They knew it wasn’t right to feel that way. Most of those I spoke to admitted that much to me. Their problem was that they kept these feelings to themselves. They didn’t seek help until it was too late.
Friend, help me spread this message across the world: people should seek help for their inner struggles while it is still safe to do so.
This brings me to self-deceiving believers. They are being taught by their self-deceiving teachers that they should ignore anything negative about themselves. They are being told that when they do bad things, it isn’t sin because they are ‘born again.’ Only those who are not born again can commit sins; born again folks only make mistakes!
That’s nonsense. When you trivialize sin, it overwhelms you. If you’ve tried to handle some negative urges by yourself and it hasn’t worked, you will be better off seeking help from those who can join their faith with yours so that you can overcome. It’s better to seek counseling now.
A sexuak act may not take more than a few minutes, but if it is wrong, its negative consequence may last a lifetime. That is why I say it goes deeper than sex.
Proverbs 6:26 WEB
For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.
This uncomfortable truth must be applied to every aspect of life in both moral and spiritual weakness.
I say again, seek help. If you keep those urges to yourself, they will grow stronger and you may find yourself doing what you never thought you could do.
You may say, “I’m a believer, I have the Holy Spirit in me and I will handle it!”
Good for you. But let me tell you this: all of those ministers and believers who messed up and were publicly disgraced thought just like that. King David believed in himself, too, and you see where it got him.
Do not struggle endlessly with demonic urges. If you haven’t been able to deal with them after one year, you should know that you need help. That is especially true of leaders. You may have prayed and fasted on your own to deal with it. If that hasn’t worked, better tell it to trusted people who can help you now than read it in a newspaper one day or get jailed for it.
That is the step many people need to take to save their destiny, or home, or career, or future.
Never join others to downplay holiness and purity, or trivialize sin.
There is a strange teaching going round that sexual sins are merely sins against your own body and has nothing to do with God. This is predicated on 1 Corinthians 6:18.
1Corinthians 6:18 KJ2000
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.
Now, if indeed your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, how could defiling it be against yourself alone and not against God?
The following verse passage should settle the matter:
1Corinthians 3:16-17 KJ2000
Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man defiles the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
Why should God threaten destruction for defiling the body when it isn’t His business whatever you do with it?
That you sin against your own body doesn’t mean you aren’t sinning against God at the same time.
Lest we forget, let those who are battling oppressive urges seek help. May everyone who needs help in this area of life be guided by the Holy Spirit to people prepared to help them.
Have a beautiful day!
Your friend,
Deon.
