DEALING WITH ‘CRUEL MOCKERY.’
The whole idea behind mockery is humiliation. It is an attempt to convince you that you are nothing. It is to get you to abandon what God has called you to do,
Hebrews 11:36 KJV
And others had trials of cruel mockings …
Dear Believer,
One of the strategies the devil and his people employ to break people’s hearts is mockery. Satan is a professional mocker.
Mockery is the ‘art’ of making light of someone or something by insults, making a caricature of a person, calling attention to supposed weaknesses and aspects of the person that are not so good.
You can be mocked because of some part of your body that looks unflattering. Elisha was mocked by some young men who sang, “Baldy, go up like your master Elijah.” They believed Elisha lied when he said Elijah was taken up in a chariot and they mocked him, highlighting his baldness. (2Kings 2:23).
Mockery can be a tool to rubbish your efforts and belittle it. When Nehemiah started leading the Israelites to build the walls of Jerusalem, Sanballat and Tobiah wanted to lure him away and hurt him. He refused. Then they turned around to mock him and his work.
Nehemiah 4:3 KJV
Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.
Saying a fox could break down a stone wall several feet thick was a mockery of the efforts of the men at work. It was calculated to break their spirit.
Wicked people can attempt to break your spirit by mocking you at a time you are down. They may mock your vision that seems to be going unfulfilled. When Jesus stood in trial before those gentiles, they mocked him cruelly about his supposed title.
John 19:2-3 KJV
And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
The whole idea behind mockery is humiliation. It is an attempt to convince you that you are nothing. It is to get you to abandon what God has called you to do, turn around and give up everything or just to downsize your vision and play safe to avoid mocking scrutiny.
There are demons of mockery that torment some people with thoughts of inadequacy and self doubt, constantly niggling at their sense of worth. You must learn to resist those spirits by the word of God and the authority of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus handled mockery with divine boldness. He ‘despised the shame’ (Hebrews 12:2). Isaiah set his face ‘like a flint.
Isaiah 50:7 KJV
For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
One of the hallmarks of this end times is an increase in the numbers of mockers.
Jude 1:18 KJV
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
They will mock your commitment to God and belief in God’s word. Nothing is sacred to them because they are full of lusts. These people are blind to their own ignorance and dirtiness. In reality, they are to be pitied. They are like a man covered in poop mocking another man wearing clean clothes.
Believer, avoid what the Bible calls the assembly of mockers. (Jeremiah 15:17KJV). That’s where people gather to laugh at holy things, belittle other people’s efforts and mock God. These jokers may call themselves comedians, but the Word of God calls them mockers. There’s a line not to be crossed when you are telling or laughing at jokes.
Never, ever mock people over their misfortune. Some even mock people for lacking things.
Proverbs 17:5 NET
The one who mocks the poor insults his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.
Never be a mocker. Never encourage mockers. They are weak-minded people who don’t feel better about their lives, which are often miserable, until they have put someone down.
Be an encourager.
Have a blessed day.
