CAN YOU RECEIVE THE NEW WINE?

Luke 5:37-38 LOGOS
And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the wineskins and it will be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But one must put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved together.

Dear Believer,

Some things don’t just mix, no matter how much you try to mix them. Some items are never meant to be together in the same place.

Jesus says here that when you have new wine, it is unwise to put it in old bottles.

‘Bottles’ in those days were actually wineskins which were made out of skins of goats. These wineskins dry up with age and become stiff over time.

New wine is still in the process of fermenting, so it releases a lot of gas. Only new wineskins could safely contain new wine because they expanded as the wine released gas because they still had elasticity.

Old wineskins on the other hand were dry and hard. If you put new wine in them, they burst as the wine fermented. Jesus says you would lose both your wine and your wineskin.

Jesus spoke this parable to illustrate the impossibility of mixing the Gospel that He brought with the traditions and the religion of the Jews.

The grace that Jesus brought by the Holy Spirit, which was the ‘new wine’ could never mix with the legalistic religion of Jews, which was the ‘old wineskin.’ Trying to mix them would result in a loss to everyone.

Today is the last day of this year, and you are about entering into another year. The New year comes with a lot of promises for a child of God. We say this by faith, not because there is anything special about any day. If you are believing God for anything new and great, look first into your life and character and attitude. Are you prepared to see a new manifestation of God’s blessing?

Some lifestyles ‘quench’ the Spirit.(1Thessalonians 5:19). Some ‘grieve’ the Spirit. (Ephesians 4:30). Some resist the Spirit. (Acts 7:51).

God wants to work in such lives and the people themselves keep calling on God to manifest, but God cannot work with them because they are old wineskins. They have refused to renew themselves by divine transformation. (Romans 12:2). They are very rigid and tough and so have become unusable to God.

You are a Believer, and God wants you to live a life that will always be usable. God wants to bring ‘new things’ into your life, but you must be ready and not be resistant.

New wine can only be received in new wineskins. As you welcome the new year, may you experience newness in the name of Jesus.
