CALLED TO HONOR MARRIAGE

CALLED TO HONOR MARRIAGE

Marriage isn’t merely about living together; it is about loving together.

Hebrews 13:4 NET
Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers.

Dear Believer,

The Word of God teaches us to hold marriage in honor. That means it mustn’t be treated as a casual thing.

The concept of honor includes respect, deference and reverence. Marriage isn’t to be a way to get what you want and then get out. It isn’t to be merely a way of escape or a means of getting rich. It isn’t just a way to satisfy your lust.

God wants anything connected to marriage to be respected. The world is the way it is because the homes are dysfunctional. Children are becoming rebellious to parents because parents are rebellious to God. We are coming against the Word of God, and it is breaking us.

Let us raise our children to honor marriage. Let the married and the unmarried know that the marriage bed must be kept holy. The immoral single person and the adulterous married person will be severely judged.

Dishonoring marriage through sexual immorality has grave consequences. The marriage bed must be kept undefiled.

Today, there are people championing the idea that marriage has expired. They claim that it is serving no useful purpose. These people are advocating for what I call marital anarchy.

One of the biggest problems in the world today is that of absent fathers. Too many children are raised by the mother only, or the father only. It is understandable when one of the spouses is widowed, but more and more married people are living apart or divorced, denying the children the benefit of full parenting.

One of the disadvantages of dishonoring marriage is a breakdown of relationships between parents and children. This becomes a vicious circle because children whose parents dishonored marriage are more likely to dishonor marriage themselves.

Relationships between fathers and children will especially be affected when marriage is dishonored. The Bible has something to say about this.

Malachi 4:5-6 KJV
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:  And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

When parents’ hearts are turned against their children and vice versa, it brings a curse. Marriage failure, which mostly happens when marriage is dishonored, causes this.

I want you to realize, though, that no one gets married to marriage. You are married to a person. To honor marriage, honor the person you are married to.

There are young people who love the idea of marriage and would do anything to get married. However, marriage isn’t merely about living together; it is about loving together. It is impossible to hold marriage in honor without holding your spouse in honor.

In the final analysis, the person you are married to is your marriage. Bring in your children into the loving union, and the picture is complete.

The Bible has laid down the principles that make marriage work. The Spirit of God in the Believer guides us in marriage, too. There is really no excuse to fail in marriage if each Believer walks in the Word of God and not live by their ego.

You are called to honor marriage, and you shall not fail in it in the name of Jesus.

Have a good day.

Your friend,
Deon.
