CALLED TO BE A REMEMBRANCER
There are Believers who claim they’ve read the Bible ‘from cover to cover,’ so there’s nothing they don’t know about it.
2Peter 1:12 NET
Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have.
Dear Believer,
I’ve noticed the tendency of human nature to forget the good faster than it forgets the bad. People generally remember to repay evil while forgetting or neglecting to repay the good done to them.
This principle is naturally at play when it comes to the Word of God. If a Believer isn’t particularly diligent in keeping the principles of faith before himself, constantly working at them, he loses them and forgets how to apply them.
Peter says in today’s focus verse that he keeps reminding the believers what they already know. This isn’t vain repetition; it is the refreshing of our knowledge.
There are Believers who claim they’ve read the Bible ‘from cover to cover,’ so there’s nothing they don’t know about it. They stopped feeding their soul on the Word of God because they believe there’s nothing new they can learn from it. That is a dangerous thing to believe.
Paul also loved to remind Believers of what they already knew.
Romans 15:15 NET
But I have written more boldly to you on some points so as to remind you, because of the grace given to me by God
Instruction in righteousness must be a repeated exercise. That is why it is necessary that you seriously sit down with the Word of God and take time to pray daily.
You don’t stop eating just because you ate yesterday. You don’t stop drinking just because you drank last week.
The Word of God must be declared repeatedly over your life. You must memorise and say it again and again so that your spirit can be reminded of the truth that can make it strong.
You must also settle down to remind yourself of what God has done for you over the years. When you forget them, your faith is weakened. Reminding yourself of them makes you know that the God who did those things is still alive to do more today.
In the Old Testament, the system of service had an office of a Remembrancer. A Remembrancer was the man who recorded things and got the details out at a moment’s notice.
1Kings 4:3 YLT
Elihoreph and Ahiah sons of Shisha are scribes; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud is remembrancer.
Intercessors were called ‘remembrancers’ because they kept pertinent matters before God, and weren’t silent when others were.
Isaiah 62:6 YLT
‘On thy walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen, All the day, and all the night, Continually, they are not silent.’ O ye remembrancers of Jehovah, Keep not silence for yourselves.
If you’ve not been a remembrancer, now is the time to be. Don’t be a forgeter of the Word and the principles of faith. Start refreshing your spirit again with the truth of the Word of God.
Have a beautiful day.
Your friend,
Deon.
