BURDEN BEARERS

BURDEN BEARERS

You need help? Help someone first. That may be the seed you need to sow for your own blessing.

Galatians 6:2 and 5 KJV
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

…For every man shall bear his own burden.

Dear Believer,

The two verses quoted above are one of the so-called contradictions in the Bible. The first (v2) says we should bear each other’s burden. The second (v5) says everyone should bear his own burden.

There is, however, no contradiction here.

The first speaks about the responsibility every Believer has to help and lift other Believers whenever they can. The second speaks about the responsibility each person owes himself.

There are things only you can do for yourself. For instance, as a Believer, your spiritual growth depends on both you and others. More mature believers may teach you and encourage you in your walk with God. They are helping you to bear your burden like the first quoted verse says.

But this isn’t enough to make you into the ideal Believer. Beyond this, you must bear the burden of personal discipline, prayer, study and consistency.

God asked us to cast our burden on Him. (Psalm 55:22 KJV). The burden that passage speaks about is our anxieties. In the scripture focus of today, it is not about anxieties, but about responsibilities.

There are two major points to be drawn from the focus scripture verses of today.

One, you are called to be selfless. You must help other believers when you can.

Two, you must do what you have to do without waiting for other people to perform your responsibilities for you.

These simple injunctions can turn the world around for good. They can change the face of Christianity if practiced by every Believer.

Today, people want others to carry their personal burdens and yet don’t want to help anyone at all. As a pastor, I have had people come to me asking the church to take over their responsibility while not interested in doing the little they can to help other people or the work of God.

Note the order of the two verses. The one that comes first is the one that tells you to bear other people’s burden; to help one another. It comes first because it is the more important of the two.

You need help? Help someone first. That may be the seed you need to sow for your own blessing.

May you receive help!

Have a blessed day.

Your friend,
Deon.
