BE A READING BELIEVER

1Timothy 4:13 KJV
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

Dear Believer,

The knowledge of God’s Word sets free from ignorance. That is good news to the Believer. It is essential to know, then, that this knowledge is not a gift; it must be acquired.

You don’t just wake up one day and find that you’ve understood the full counsel of God as revealed in His Word. We gain knowledge in degrees.

Isaiah the Prophet tells us how God imparts knowledge.

Isaiah 28:9-10 KJV
Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.

Paul the Apostle tells Timothy, “Give attention to reading.”

Timothy was a Pastor. Paul couldn’t see how Timothy could lead if he didn’t read.

‘Give attention to reading.’ This means ‘Take reading seriously. Set time apart for reading. Do it like a serious business. Pour resources into it.’

Too many Believers don’t take reading seriously. They may take secular or academic reading seriously, but when it comes to the Bible and related literature, they get casual.

Do you have a special time that you’ve devoted to the Word of God? Do you have special notebooks that you’ve dedicated to writing what God shows you in His Word? Do you take time to memorize the Word of God? Do you spend time meditating on the Word?

You are a Believer, remember that. It is the Word of God that qualifies you to be a Believer. If you don’t take reading the Word seriously, you may well end up being a very weak Believer.

So, friend, O say unto you as Paul said to Timothy, “Give attention to reading.”
