BALANCE: YOU HAVE TO BE IGNORANT IN SOME THINGS!
Perhaps one of the most difficult things in this world for a Believer is to learn to avoid worthless information and hurtful entertainment.
Dear Believer,
It is not good to live a life that is either top heavy or bottom heavy. God wants us to learn the principle of spiritual balance and apply it to every area of our life.
What do you think of a child that is so good at her studies that she is useless when it comes to house chores?
How would you rate a Believer who loves to pray but doesn’t care to study the Word?
One can do a good thing at the expenses of another good thing that also needs to be done.
Everyone needs to know how to balance the necessary responsibilities in their life.
1. Strike a balance in ministry.
God is as much concerned about what we do as what we shouldn’t do. In serving Him for instance, He doesn’t want us to work so much that we break down and lose our health.
A lover of God called Ephaphroditus worked himself almost to death. Here’s what Paul said about him:
Philippians 2:30 KJV
Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
So, in trying to make up for other people’s lack of zeal, he took upon himself the work and the responsibilities of ten men. The result of this was a breakdown in health. He was ministering the Life of Christ while ‘not regarding his life’! That was most unwise.
Brother Ephaproditus did not learn to strike a balance in his ministry.
2. Strike a balance about time.
Ecclestiastes 3:1 KJV
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
Not all the verses following the one above applies to the New Testament Believer, but we can learn from the concept they are teaching.
One of the biggest lessons we must teach children is to learn to do the right thing at the right time. A child or a believer who has mastered that principle will grow up to be a balanced one.
3. Strike a balance in knowledge.
Rom 16:19 KJV
…But yet I want you knowledgeable in that which is good, and be ignorant concerning evil.
Perhaps one of the most difficult things in this world for a Believer is to learn to avoid worthless information and hurtful entertainment.
We are told here to acquire much knowledge about the good but be deliberately ‘obtuse’ about evil.
Today, many Believers know as much about worthless and sinful things as they know about God’s Word, and that is exactly why their faith is weak. The bad influence that is in the wrong knowledge they acquired keeps conflicting with and watering down the positive influence of the good things in them.
For example, some men keep staring at pornography, and then go to church to hear the Word of God. They know so much of the sinful acts of the wicked – things that they should be ignorant of.
It is not enough to be excellent in the good; to be a balanced Believer, you must also be ignorant in evil.
Dear Believer, live a balanced life!
May your day be blessed!
